ARTIST
STATEMENT
Beauty, harmony, and the sublime are topics rarely discussed in contemporary art, yet I return to these words as inspiration in my work. Seeing beyond the conspicuous and capturing the vitality of nature is my great joy.
Classic questions of color and composition are challenges that motivate and deliver resolution to my finished pieces. Whimsy infuses my artistic process in oil paint using brushes or bondo spreader to create various moods. As a painting’s narrative unfolds, I revisit compositional structures and emotional content with my “virtual scotch & cigarette.”
Explorations of my environment are reoccurring themes reflecting my contrasting neighborhoods of Florida and New England. My work captures personal memories yet evokes a sense of familiarity in the stories they share with the viewer.
ABOUT
After years of professional work as a Design Director at the A&E Television Networks, I completed a BA in Art from Columbia University. Post college, I studied in the rigorous tradition of the Florence Academy which includes Barque drawing, drawing from casts and painting from the live model.
I began to feel restricted by the lack of my personal expression and vibrant joy that I believe art incites. Upon an invitation to take a workshop in abstraction I learned to listen to my senses and embrace my authentic voice. Read my full RESUME here.
